Representative Kay Granger (LM)
Read this article about a recent Israeli tour of the F-35 plant in Fort Worth.
Forget all the idiocy of the poor Israelis who are on their way to get stuck with this lemon.
Instead, notice the rest of the article. You have people like Representative Kay Granger who think the F-35 will be useful in future combat.
I wonder how that is so?
Granger, like some other proponents of the F-35 thinks delays are anyone but Lockheed Martin's fault. I wonder why that is? It is a known pattern with F-35 cheerleaders.
So the answer is this. Look at the PDF below which shows political contributions from Lockheed Martin in general and Lockheed Martin officials specifically to Rep. Kay Granger. Notice all the names on there that anyone who follows the F-35 program will recognize.
Kay Granger is bought and paid for. There is no other explanation for the misinformation about the F-35 program which she parrots.

"China is preparing for the future, Russia is preparing for the future, we have to prepare for the future and the F-35 is the future."

Granger, the former Fort Worth mayor who plays a key role as chairwoman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on State-Foreign Operations and as a member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, blamed changing Pentagon requirements for delays and the higher price tag.

Great F-35 quotes from Canada
Read all of the quotes here. A great collection. Suitable for framing.
Julian Fantino, November 9, 2011. “We will purchase the F-35,” Fantino asserted. “We’re on record. We’re part of the crusade. We’re not backing down.”

*UPDATE* AG- DND misled Parliament over the F-35
The Canadian Auditor General has released a damning report on the government's 2010 decision to select the F-35 as the CF-18 replacement.
What appears to have happened is that before the July 2010 F-35 announcement by the current government, there was a DND estimate that the F-35 program would cost $25B (including 20 years of maintenance) if Canada went through with it.
After the government announced the decision for the F-35, the $16B figure was claimed by the DND (and even published on their website). In 2011, the DND stated $14.7B in response to a report done by the Parliamentary Budget Officer, Kevin Page.
The report by Page was much higher than any DND estimate and was attacked by the F-35 fan-base. As it turns out--given the huge cost rise in the F-35 program--Page is probably closer on the numbers. The AG agrees.
The current government's defense is,"we haven't signed a contract yet!". True. It is the untruthful language leading up to that decision that is the problem.
Parliament will likely respond to this fraud by pulling DND's authority to procure a CF-18 replacement. A good move because DND has proven they can't be trusted with what could be the most expensive Canadian military procurement in history. DND (and the current government) went native to Lockheed Martin fairy tales. What happens to the careers of people involved in this lie to parliament is yet to be seen.
*** UPDATE- Alan Williams has some good comments in this CBC video.

Canadian DND sent weak F-35 cost figures to Parliament rep
Hard to believe. Shocking even. Or maybe not.
iPolitics reports (subscription) that a 3 March 2011 letter from the Canadian DND to a Parliament budget official has surfaced which shows some very weak assumptions on what it will cost Canada to purchase and maintain 65 F-35s. I have re-captured the letter for download below.
Most of it is devoid of any analysis and instead depends on figures from the seller of the aircraft.
It turns out that the DND considers 65 as the minimum number of aircraft.
When compared to my estimates, what we have is a large void.
Next month, Canada's Auditor General is supposed to release a report stating that the DND misled Parliament over the F-35 debacle. DND will be defenseless because they didn't do any real analysis.
H/T-Mark
