How to fly the P-40 Warhawk

What made the P-40 successful in WWII was not its high performance as it was not that.

It was rugged, cheap to build and good enough.

As the war went on, the Axis habit of not understanding a pilot-pipeline finshed them. They didn't know how to have a continuous supply of average pilots to feed losses.

We did.

While not a consolation to those that got in trouble with the P-40, it ended the war with a positive kill ratio.

A war of attrition.

Here is what the Curtiss sales rep didn't tell you. Note also this is a clean aircraft without guns and ammo, center-tank and probably no armor plate and maybe even no oxygen gear. Depending on the variant, the motor doesn't breath all that great above 15,000 ft.
