The US is wasting precious dollars on the F35 fiasco program when they should be re-capitalizing the tac air fleet with easy production run F15E+ and/or F16 variants. How one can spend almost $10B on a program where the jet is fundamentally flawed is disturbing. A simple order of 12 F15E+ units per year (approx $1B) would eliminate any gaps in F15 production, as well as replace aging aircraft that are just getting older. Old planes are not planes that can sustain a high temp during war, as they will be down for maintenance or have more broken parts, lowering the availability.

While the F15 is not an F22, it is the next most capable and can support the F22 well. At a minimum I would cut F35 funding to a minimum until the problems are fixed.
If the F35 was cancelled outright you can bet that LM would lobby to restart the F22 line, or propose a new version of the F16. Life would go on, probably for the the better.
