Finally, I am told the cost to modify jets in lots 2-5 is about $30 million each. Lockheed has said these costs are already accounted for in the program. Specifically how this will be paid for, the impact on deliveries, and the size of the fleet that is funded are all questions that are unclear to me.

I notice that Aviation Weak has kept Bill out of talking about the F-35B's flying from the Wasp. It's been one article after another following the USMC dog and pony show by Amy B with few real questions being asked.

Let's see here....60 LRIP F-35s need to be be fixed @ $30M each = $1.8B. And the JPO says that this extra expense will be covered from within the program? Don't worry, we'll get the bill a little further down the road.

The 'extra expense' for retrofits will be covered from future Procurement and development, which will come at the expense of fewer future orders and capabilities, which will increase unit cost and back-end said capabilities development, which will be covered from within future consolidated Program budgets.
