So the U.S. wants to deploy a force to Uganda to get the Lords Resistance Army.
It should be an interesting trick since 4th generation warriors don't understand borders. They can just melt into the woodwork. Better to use Executive Outcomes. Oh, that's right; can't have someone doing a job way better than the morons in the U.N.
There are countless hell-holes around the world to send the Army.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, why does the Federal Government hate America? Certainly the funds wasted on a Uganda op could be put into our polices forces, border protection or any number of real nation-building-at-home efforts.
It would be nice if we had people elected as the President of the United States instead of the President of Team America: WORLD POLICE.
Operation: USELESS DIRT 4 is calling.

I hear ya, Eric... I too hit my head against the wall in support of more in-country investment and strategic protective vision and allocations.
But it is my honest opinion that the LRA is a piece of shit terrorist group of thugs who have caused more terror, brutality and suffering in Africa than any paradise they might have intended to dream of. This is the 21st century, these MF'ers need to go, there is no room for this extremist type of operation on the globe today. The people of the world must stand up and deny them and demobilize them. This will only set in motion an example and a message for the world round. Time is changed, humble yourselves, no more civil brutality. The age of extreme warlords has to go. They should be confronted on the level of combating Diarrhea worldwide - the most viscous terror of all. That's what they are.
I would advocate however to cease the moment. I understand what Obama is doing right now, but disagree. The opportunity should be taken right now to propose a multi-power joint-operation to confront the LRA at this time as an example for the world. I would advocate for a joint Chinese-Russian-US-EU-AU special operations training and LRA liquidation mission. A joint command, perhaps operating in autonomous small groups with a liaison from each member in each group speaking native language of each representing group, in constant radio and real-time positional contact.
One would like to think this is possible and that the opportunity could be decisively right now... Reconciliation, humility, atonement and a new vision in Africa will do more net positive for the world it cannot be underestimated or ignored.
Anyway, that's my view and note to Washington... either way, Do NOT screw this mission up with some shoot from the hip, imperialism-creep perceived mission only to receive blowback on 5 yrs from now.
From my reading it's only a 100 strong special forces and UAV detachment so far. Of course we've seen this sort of thing expand from a small base before, but with the complete withdrawal of US forces from Iraq due in less than 2 months, the US capacity to take on such new missions, especially at such relatively low levels should improve remarkably.
I think the Libyan example is the model that should be pursued for these sorts of campaigns. For humanitarian reasons they are worthwhile, but the US needs to insure that the Countries with the problem carry the majority of the burden in dealing with them, with the US providing high end, but appropriate assistance with Special Forces, UAV and ISR/Comms capability and if necessary limited but sufficient air power to enable the locals to achieve the dominance over such rebel groups they require to completely over-match them and root out the problem.
And then get the hell out of there and go back to diplomatic and usual civilian aid / nation building programs with no further military involvement.
Bonza , you are kidding, that is how it all starts out.
