Operation: USELESS DIRT 4

So the U.S. wants to deploy a force to Uganda to get the Lords Resistance Army.

It should be an interesting trick since 4th generation warriors don't understand borders. They can just melt into the woodwork. Better to use Executive Outcomes. Oh, that's right; can't have someone doing a job way better than the morons in the U.N.

There are countless hell-holes around the world to send the Army.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, why does the Federal Government hate America? Certainly the funds wasted on a Uganda op could be put into our polices forces, border protection or any number of real nation-building-at-home efforts.

It would be nice if we had people elected as the President of the United States instead of the President of Team America: WORLD POLICE.

Operation: USELESS DIRT 4 is calling.

Recapture of the Lockerbie bomber?

The U.S. finally (after the fact) discovers a good reason to wage war on Libya. That is to recapture the terrorist responsible for the Lockerbie bombing that our "special relationship"..."friends"... set free.

Portable wireless Internet in a hostile country has other risks

This is cool and everything.

I just hope they know the risks; in that, this gear can be geolocated. Not unlike the WWII movie where you see the German radio direction finder van in the French countryside while the resistance radio operator is sending a signal. That didn't always end well.

Then there is that other problem.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton called these circumvention technologies “a historic opportunity to effect positive change, change America supports.” However, there is the concern that the State Department's actions will be viewed not just as promoting free speech and protecting human rights, but as targeting foreign governments. Clay Shirky told the Times that the U.S. could particularly expose itself to charges of hypocrisy if the State Department outwardly supported regimes like Saudi Arabia or Bahrain, while at the same time building tools that would likely be used to destabilize them.

U.S. Middle East policy can only go so far as AIPAC

Well, that was quick.

"AIPAC appreciates President Obama's speech today at our annual policy conference in which he reaffirmed the importance of the U.S.-Israel relationship and the shared values that define both nations. In particular, we appreciate his statement that the U.S. does not expect Israel to withdraw to the boundaries that existed between Israel and Jordan in 1967 before the Six Day War."

When you have to issue a "clarification" to one of your important campaign donors, maybe the message was never properly thought out in the first place. I would say that pretty much covers Obama's Middle East policy as it pertains to Israel. The need for campaign dollars; the need to win the next election and so on. For the U.S., AIPAC is a big part of Middle East Policy. Even if it shouldn't be.
