Australia flirting with more bad Syria policy

Why this is bad policy.

1. It will burn up airframe hours on old aircraft, that we can ill afford. Airframe hours on newer aircraft for the current bombing ops are just as wasteful.

2. The mission sucks. There is no ground element to carry out the end game. To date, "moderate" Syrians (or other regional players) are defined by whomever is making up the story.

3. Australia has a tiny military. What capability it does have is only useful to keep trained and capable for the region...our own back yard. Australian allies depend on this local knowledge and capability if there is a regional security event or other-than-war deployment needed to fix things. That is what the ADF is best at. That is what it is capable of doing...if led and managed well.

4. As an aside, in that ABC piece,  more signs of defective thinking from the Entrenched Defence Bureaucracy and government in general can be seen in the waste involved with the extreme-risk F-35 program.

In other news, eventually a spendthrift government runs out of other people's money.
