I highly recommend this DVD set from 10 years ago about the Collins-class sub HMAS Rankin.
It is fun to watch and some interesting points.
1. Just like today, we need more sub crews. It could be a miracle to crew 12 boats.
2. The only real fault of the last Collins submarine built, shown in this video were the diesel engines, the diesel engines and...the diesel engines. They were garbage and outrageously unreliable.
3. A bit disturbing that the video wasn't censored more. There were a wide variety displays and procedures and other systems that were classified shown in the video. The public doesn't have THAT much need to know An already informed eye will pick up a lot.
I did.
The crew was very competent.
