A friend of mine recently stumbled upon this old Flight Global article (PDF file) from 1979:
One of the dirty little secrets about the A-10 is that Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Jordan, and Pakistan all placed orders for A-10s in the 1970s --- but they got screwed out of them by Carter and Congress. There are more shockers in there as well.
