I've been looking at the latest budget figures on F-35 concurrency. The total budgeted cost is $2.2 billion (not the reported $1.6B) to apply all of the engineering changes to three variants. (Software block upgrades are separate.) It's been a major effort, still incomplete, to upgrade ten B's for the MC "IOC", imagine what a hundred planes entails.

The JPO now provides a consolidated list of about 300 priority engineering changes accumulated to date (much rigorous testing remaining) for all three variants. The list is here (p. 107). Note especially the structural problems on this heavy plane, with the STOVL within one percent of its weight limitation.
