Brisbane would be the only realistic site it has an (underused) dry dock (Cairnscross 85K tonnes DWT). Further north in Australia there is nothing capable of docking a ship bigger than 2000T.
Being so close to Asia has utterly destroyed the civilian ship repair industry. For example, ferry's connecting Victoria and Tasmania tend to go to Singapore for maintenance.

Talking about following people about, you probably haven't seen this yet
http://news.defence.gov.au/2014/11/23/hmas-success-deploys-to-middle-east/
The RAN has 2 fleet tankers, Sirius a converted 15kn merchant tanker based in WA and Success a Durance class fleet tanker based in Sydney. With Success committed to the Middle East for the next 6 months the East Coast RAN is hot going very far. Any attempt at tracking is going to be limited by the need to go into a friendly port for fuel and supplies.
Good thing the Russians seem to have gone home.
Re: Johnno's link:
"Success will relieve Anzac class frigate HMAS Toowoomba, which will return shortly before Christmas."
Replenishment ship replaces Frigate. Huh?

The brilliant strategists in Canberra recently condoned Forgacs at Newcastle selling off their floating dock which had been used over time for RAN warship maintenance.
It would have been far smarter for the Federal Government to buy the asset, deploying same where most geographically suitable and leasing to defence industry.
