Imaginary Defence

Imaginary Defence...

As Brabin-Smith and Schreer rightly point out, the Canberra Class Landing Helicopter Docks (LHDs) are multi-purpose amphibious assault ships and as such represent a major improvement in the ADF’s ability to project force in the region.

M-1 tank (no good). Helicopters: big problems.

Project what force? A force for good in low threat environs/security, other than war? Sure. But then do we need ships that big?

The author of the post is an Army officer. Thus far, he has come the closest of anyone in the ASPI circle of friends to make some sense.

There are a lot of UAV solutions I would like to see.

Australia should be up front observing UCAS-N. Land-based of course but it will go far after being tanked.

But back to the big crew-intensive floating question-mark Canberra-class. I will be interested to see how they are replenished at sea, crewed and paid for.

Maybe we could get some money back having them as floating casinos. One in Sydney and one in Brisbane.

(Proposed Canberra-class hanger deck, since the current
aviation solutions suck)
