Add a poorly run Defence Material Organisation, rent-seekers and those that think they are entitled to taxpayer dollars simply for breathing air and you have a lot of issues to work through.
Or just plain, get rid of.
When I was in the USAF, during a change of command ceremony, the new Wing commander said in his welcoming address, "I don't believe in spending 95 percent of my time with 5 percent of the problems. I eliminate the 5 percent."
Here is some of the latest crying involving entitlement and warship-building. The story starts out by informing us that the first Canberra-class will be delayed by 6-months.
For no particular, justifiable, reason.
First, entitlement. No mention of why a warship needs to be built for the very purpose of an actual, useful contribution to the nation's defense.
News of the delay comes as unions warn of massive job losses due to a lack of shipbuilding decisions in the federal Budget.
Shipyard workers took their case to Canberra yesterday warning of job cuts in excess of 3800 under the so-called shipbuilding “valley of death”.
Mechanical fitter Robert Proctor, 33, from Newcastle-based shipyard Forgacs, believes he could be out of a job within a month. “Don’t send the jobs overseas, keep them in Australia, keep an industry alive, otherwise this industry will be dead,” he said.
Response:
“People wonder why we get work on our ships done in Singapore — it is cheaper, better and more reliable,” a government source said.
I suspect that the "government" source is living off of the taxpayer in one of our most dysfunctional government orgnaisations, the DMO.
An industry source said any “go slow” would be understandable as workers tried to extend their jobs due to a lack of work in the pipeline to bridge the “valley of death”.
Any other organisation that isn't government run, would put a boot in the ass of a manager that had no justifiable problems yet wasn't making schedule. But, not here in Australia with the government-owned Soviet defence management style.
THAT, shows the level of entitlement that people think they have. It is wrong. There is plenty of warship building to do, it is just that the Entrenched Defence Bureaucracy is run by idiots and those that believe in self-before-service. For example, in order to sustain one of Australia's greatest naval victories (turning back illegal boat people), this country needs a perminent/always warm low-rate production of patrol boats with good durability, sea-keeping and so on.
We do not need Air Warfare Destroyers with obsolete air warfare systems. We need new ...again... always-warm, continuous, low-rate production of frigates, support ships and practical, simple, submarines.
Yet, there are too many chair-warmers, in fear of their jobs, that are not capable of logic who feels the tax-payer needs to be thankful everyday for their disqusting behaviour.
