"Significant" impact--DOD uses Russian-made rockets to put military payloads into space--now...cut off

I learn something new every day.

The fallout of the U.S. interfering in Russia's back yard over events of no U.S. interest and then getting all upset when things don't go the way of the insurgent U.S. State Department, is that U.S. military rocket launches which use Russian-made engines may be affected.

Russia has cut off the rocket motor supply.

You read that right. the alleged, most powerful fighting force, has to, has been, depending on Russian-made rocket motors to throw military payloads up into space.

What a disgrace.

NOTE: Hagel called for study in response to tensions with Russia over Ukraine; Russian officials have cut off supply of RD-180 engines for U.S. military launches

Lockheed, Boeing joint-venture United Launch Alliance has 16 RD-180 engines in stock, for use on Atlas V launches, a 2-year supply, as ULA has manifest for 38 launches, panel says

Air Force should take “near-term’ action to mitigate some risk of losing RD-180 such as increasing research spending for new engine

Allegedly, there is a two year supply on hand. The solution would be to build at home. It could take 6 years for a U.S.-made rocket. This means a 4 year potential window of no military space payload ability that requires rocket solutions of this kind.

Assuming the schedule holds.
