It is that time of year again. People in alleged think-tanks put together briefings that are of no value. These poor opinions are there to help the FY2015 budget planning process. Here are some samples of the moronic thinking to help the DOD through the coming years.
Dunning Kruger Effect all the way around.
Start out with the American Enterprise Institute (PDF). They are operationally ignorant enough to think everyone needs F-35Bs or F-35Cs. This is an aircraft system that does not work. Even as an operational concept. It will lose battles and maybe even wars.
Center for a New American Security (PDF)?
Better.
Dump older aircraft and the F-35.
Get some silent eagles and new Block F-16s.
Dump cruisers. Drop a carrier (both good). And some other things.
But they think the LCS is a worthy thing to invest in. Not good.
CSBA (PDF):
Not very bright about airpower: More F-35 nonsense. They also mention yet another weapon that hasn't matured yet the LRASM.
CSIS (PDF):
Seriously uninformed. They mention helping allies where a bullet says "SNN" and "Collins". This would show how very little they know about Australia and its moribund military procurement efforts.
Not bright on F-35s.
Reduce 2 carriers. I am OK with that.
Kill an ICBM Wing? No thanks. That does not spell "deterrence".
Now the comparison of all teams (PDF).
All teams wanted to retire the A-10. The team comparison charts mention "stealthy fighters".
The F-35 doesn't qualify on that regard.
These people are dangerous because the half-wits in Congress and elsewhere will listen to them...well as much as it doesn't interrupt their campaign contributions.
