Useful tracks

One of the dumb ideas during the Howard government was for Australia to get M-1 tanks.

Interesting because today many of them are in storage and they are a nightmare to support (A much smaller version of the U.S. Army problem).

Being in the Pacific with lots of water in the form of beaches, streams, rivers, lakes and weak ground it is interesting that there isn't much of a place for the M-1 tank; even if it was supportable and sustainable, which it is not.

Below is a quick chart which compares the M-1 to the M-113 (also in Australian service).

Want to deploy tracks? If they can't swim or ford like a T-72 (which is also heavy, just a lot lighter than an M-1) then the vehicle is of little use.
