The F-102 disaster

The following two presentations are a fun look at the failure of the F-102 design.

Some of the assumptions in the presentations are not quite accurate. For example, the F-102 was originally made to intercept enemy bombers. A dubious single-use requirement. Also, there is nothing wrong with a single-mission use aircraft: if the thinking behind the requirement is logical.

But with that, the presentations are mostly informative. The F-102 is part of our post-WWII history of bad military weapons programs.

And yes, the Falcon missile did suck. Even if it too, (like the air-to-air unguided rockets) were intended to kill bombers and not maneuverable fighters.
