I don't get it.
Australia has a need for frigates, patrol boats and various kinds of transport and support ships. Yet, the RAN/DMO team just seem unable to make any real progress in delivering a useful navy to Australia.
I would mention submarines, but in regard to the current situation, that is pretty much a complete write-off.

They have never heard of wear and tear let alone attrition.
Example, due the constant arrival of boat people,up to 9 out of 14 patrol boats are unavailable due to maintenance.
Have they never heard of situations changing overnight?
(Fixed a typo)
Well I don't know - Australia's future submarine program (SEA 1000)is about naval realities. That is union interests, money and votes for marginal South Australian seats .
Oh yes and kickbacks and value added endless delays on behalf of worthy companies and bureaucrats.
Unfortunatly Abbott has not contradicted this Labor model, so expensive "lemonaid" (you heard it here first) is a cert.
Not to mention military efficiency, which is not an issue because its not in the secret
specs.
