2004 leaked cable contests DND F-35 assumptions

A leaked 2004 U.S. Embassy cable states that Canada may only be able to afford 50-55 F-35s and could be as low as 40. BTW, close to my figures but for different reasons; I assume a high unit cost in addition to a high operating cost.

Funny too is that the report states that Canada wouldn't be able to afford one squadron of F-22s; calling it a "pipe dream". Yet as we now know, any FMS sale of the F-22 to an "ABC" (Australia, Britain, Canada) which is less of a security concern (Molly paper) is more affordable than the F-35.

In other news, MacKay et-al still get a free pass for statements of around $70M each for the F-35 and the nonsense about buying during a 2016 "peak-production" era.
