Here is how shareholders get spun about the rollout of BK-1, the first "international" F-35. It is a STOVL model which is now of no use to the U.K. It will also need a variety of fixes such as the wing (a process described as expensive and time consuming); a newer drive shaft (not in production yet) and other STOVL appliances. The helmet which is a core system for pilot situational awareness is faulty. Software blocks are late and watered down. The aircraft is yet to drop one weapon or have any relevant operational tests.
Here is a quote
from the press release:
Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT)’s F-35 executive vice president Tom Burbage said, “This first F-35 for the first international programme partner is symbolic of the proud partnership we share with the United Kingdom. Working together in a spirit of collaboration, we are providing the men and women of the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy with unmatched 5th Generation capabilities, while delivering advanced technology sector jobs to the U.K”.

I can understand why you would spend money on the wing spar fix but why does MoD need to spend money on the STOL crap? They aren't going to use it or do they expect to practice STOL with this particular -B? Why would the Brits spend the money on that?
Why would they spend money on the B model you ask Nico? Because Britain forgot the first rule of purchasing and contracts. NEVER sign up and pay for anything until you know exactly what it is you are getting. Empty promises after the fact wont change reality. Once your locked in, your locked in. Why on earth some form of sunset clause couldn't be written in to encourage honesty is beyond me. The old rule still applies though, "Caveat emptor".
And if LM and the marketing machine are listening, you are going to send the golden geese broke trying to hatch this abomination. So maybe you should take notice of the reciprocal term, "Caveat venditor" ?
They must have learnt from Australia, regarding the signing of the Super Seasprite contract, which had no penalty clauses.
