Just finished watching two full seasons of Star Trek: Enterprise.
The interesting thing about Trek is that unlike a police show, or a western, you don't have a narrow, limited canvas upon which to write stories. The canvas is very broad.
That is probably the number one criticism fans of Trek put forward when various efforts in the franchise fail to deliver. You don't have a limited canvas, how can you screw up?
Enterprise, doesn't live up to what it should have been and there is no good reason for that.
The show ignores basic Trek 'history' in its stories time and again. Which along with many poorly thought out episodes, it is a surprise that it lasted four seasons. The idea some have stated that Braga and Berman should never be allowed to do Trek again is fair.
And that is sad. It had the potential to be the best ever.
There are a good handful of episodes that I like and that are very well done. The pure concept of Trek stories. The characters are likeable and with a little tuning in the writing, could have made them stellar.
With that, I can like the series for the few jewels it has and let it go at that.
