Defense One - 'State of Defense 2016'

Pretty much a copy/paste job with no critical analysis. Real shallow-end-of-the-pool stuff.

Example:

"But there’s been progress there over the past year, and more new planes are on the way. The Air Force is expected to declare the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter battle ready this summer."

Sure. How about the raft of unresolved issues with this aircraft? Like, oh, that big important one which indicates it will get shot down if it has to face a real enemy.

Defense One are also off quite a bit on the number of ships the United States uses for national security activity. This hasn't changed much since 2014.

The Army? How about we do a combat-readiness report on all of our (few) combat divisions/brigades? What would those results be? I suspect very few of them are good-to-go for deployment.

How does that readiness status compare to...2013?

“Readiness for ground combat is—and will remain—the U.S. Army’s #1 priority. We will always be ready to fight today, and we will always prepare to fight tomorrow,” he said in his first message to troops in August."

Show me.

"(Indeed, the Army spent $287 million to study troops’ penchant for optimism only to find out that most were anything but happy.)"

Over to you Duffel-blog: America's number one source for defense news...or so it seems some days.

At any rate, Defense One has always been underwelming. If they wanted to be different, that would require real, investigative journalism. And not their current product line.
