Recognizing the big mistakes

For those of us that have followed the F-35 / JSF program since it came about, there isn't much new in this report by the National Security Network, F-35: Thunder without Lighting. Large portions of it are things I have pointed out on my blog for many years; pointing to those warning us.

For those that up to this point still do not get it, that the F-35 is by all definitions, a failed program, then, this report may help you and your kind.

OK, well, the only tac-air options to get this F-35 cancer fixed are to:

1. Have DOD declare a default. Stop the work.

"The A-12 I did terminate. It was not an easy decision to make because it's an important requirement that we're trying to fulfill. But no one could tell me how much the program was going to cost, even just through the full scale development phase, or when it would be available. And data that had been presented at one point a few months ago turned out to be invalid and inaccurate."

2. Have the services sit down and start with a clean sheet of paper on how tac-air will be recapitalized. Restarting the F-22 line is not easy because all those sub-contractor suppliers are gone. Rethink the threats and what it will take to produce deterrent and war-winning effects.

3. No STOVL requirement for any manned tac-air.

4. Be honest. A very large series of mistakes were made.

5. Staying the course is not an option because the F-35 is likely to get shot down if it goes into combat. It can't provide anything useful for the money spent.
