To answer your question, the most likely bidders for the kind of spec the RAN is going to write are the French/Italian FREMM (common hull but national systems, or the UK Type 26, or something from Germany put together from their box of common bits and pieces. All would be around 6K tonnes.
Type 26 is the most up to date and bow sonar would be common with the AWD.

Both the T26 and anything Germany came up with will make lie to the argument of a proven design as the T26 has only gone as far long lead time orders at the moment and a German build to order would have a lot of changes from their latest frigate (Shachan? not sure of spelling).
