Reader Comments -- Jobs

Bushranger 71

Jobs at what cost?
The enormous cash handouts to the likes of the automotive industry translated to very high cost of maintaining individual jobs at taxpayer expense.
I would wager that the profits being sucked out of Australia by allowing the international arms manufacturers to own and/or control Australian defence industries are dwarfing the subsidies paid to the auto industry.
The political catch-cry of jobs, jobs, jobs attached to almost every endorsement of resources, infrastructure, tourism or projects of whatever nature almost seldom measures up to rash promises.
Add to that, the Federal Government allowing politically influential entities to import supposed temporary workers via 457 visas and the so-called Financial Services Industry (which produces nought) throwing money at them for purchase of residential property.
And what of the huge funding being thrown at Transfield whose activities are increasingly covered in murkiness?
The modus operandi of the Abbott Government would make even the Mafia blush.
