Lessons to learn

This is a kick in the balls. Notice the chart. And, note the annual spend of Canada and Australia on their Defence budget.

Notice how much more efficient Canada is with its money.

"Bluntly put, Canada won’t be recapitalising its aircraft fleets with the sort of money likely to be available. And even upgrades to keep the current fleets flying would have to be marginal propositions. It’s the same story at sea—it’s hard to see Canada replacing its submarines, for example."

Hint: Australia isn't recapitalizing its aircraft in anything but purchases. For example with the MRH-90 and Tiger, this is money thrown in a burn pit. And Super Hornet? Near twice the cost per flight hour of the classic Hornet. F-35 twice or more of the Super without the Super's reliability.  Both: weak against Australia's long-term strategic need.

And so many other weapon systems besides aircraft.

Canada certainly has had its share of procurement stuff ups. But in their case, they at least have more of a discussion on the topic. Example the F-35 where for Australia, it is pretty much  >>>crickets chirping<<<<

Canada is most likely not up for replacing their subs. But then again, try invading Canada or choking off its energy supply.

Australia has less than 1 moth of fossil fuel on hand, yet many weapon systems guzzle down this resource per hour like they are hooked to a refinery that won't stop.

In true comparison, Canada is way better at matching their defence needs. This is the real comparison: that which is practical.
