Like some others, I really question the cost-effectiveness of submarines when only about one third of boats are likely to be operationally deployable at any point in time. Maybe 9 would be needed to have 3 continually available and manned with the latter aspect not being easily assured.
But even one operationally deployable by say Indonesia would generate a potential risk to refined fuel supply for Australia, hence need for a sizeable ASW Corvette fleet to augment ISR and airborne ASW resources. Corvettes would be well within smaller shipbuilder capabilities in Australia and could sustain that segment of industrial capacity for decades, if properly managed.
