Reader comment -- The V-2 -- 15 tons of LOX per shot ....AND...

Blacktail

The V2 had even more serious issues than that --- so serious, that it was possibly the most disastrous failure in the history of warfare. Consider the following facts...
- Although more than 6000 V2s were manufactured, only 3170 were actually launched.
- 1403 V2s were launched at targets in Great Britain, but most of them missed their mark by a wide margin. In fact, some 300 of them missed Britain --- a 50000-quare-mile REGION --- entirely!
- 1359 of the 1404 V2s launched into Britain were specifically aimed at London, but only 517 of them landed inside the city limits. Few (if any) landed near their aimpoints,
- The V2 Program ended up being the second most expensive military project in World War 2 after USA's $5.53 Billion B-29 Superfortress Program, costing a staggering $3 Billion. The third most expensive military program of the war, incidentally, cost a paltry $1.9 Billion. You may have heard of it before; it was called the Manhattan Project.
There's much more than that, but I think you get the idea.
