DOD Says Lockheed's F-35 Fighters May Be Unsafe
Law360, Washington (March 17, 2015, 3:20 PM ET) -- The U.S. Department of Defense’s Inspector General said in a report Friday that it is unclear if Lockheed Martin Corp.’s F-35 joint strike fighter will meet its goals or even be safe to fly, finding more than 50 “nonconformities” in the costly program.
The report said the fighters’ development has been hampered by subcontractor problems, manufacturing problems, software issues, lack of independent oversight and an inadequate safety program.
