Collins and the 787

When the Boeing 787 was rolled out, the event was a joke. Fasteners from common hardware stores were used to hold it together.

I did not realize that a similar thing was done with the Collins (PDF).

HMAS Collins was launched in 1993. Although the launch was impressive, it was mostly a façade set up for the press and dignitaries. At the time of the launch, the design was not yet completed, the pipe fabrication was not finished, and even some of the steel plates were just timber painted black. After the launch, construction continued for another 10 months; the boat was not completed until June 1994, well behind schedule.

Hugely dishonest.
