Canada's CF-18 Hornet replacement program has to face reality.
Right now Canada has 6 jets in the Baltic and 6 more in the Middle-East vs. ISIS.
That doesn't count the home air defense requirement.
The RCAF is very busy.
Important because whatever replaces the CF-18 can't cost up to 7-times more per flight hour (a prospect faced by Australia) and have less capability and readiness.
Add it up.
Today's CF-18 has more overall versatility and reliability vs. the Just So Failed. Note that neither can take on emerging threats head-on, but for everything else, a non-F-35 solution is practical.
So if you can't face emerging threats head-on what do you do? Well, the U.S. Navy is hedging their bets. They have cut F-35C orders and taken some of that money to invest in long-range stand off missiles...which can be dropped off of Hornet-family aircraft.
Australia, who have also been caught up in the F-35 propaganda, will extend the life of their old F-18 Hornet aircraft...again. This time out to 2025. Australia has also qualified the stealthy JASSM cruise missile on their old Hornets.
