There may be a leadership change in the federal government. The justification is that the current Prime Minister appears to be incompetent. This is worse than the last two Prime Ministers that were incompetent, corrupt and Communist.
Australia is trying to out-leadership the Italian government.
Not mentioned much is that we currently have a Coalition government. The National Party (conservative) while not big, is not going to give a free pass to any leadership change. Their hand-shake deal was with the Liberal Party's Abbott, the guy currently under fire. This could put the Coalition leadership at risk of...no longer leading.
The Japanese now see the Soryu sub deal at risk reports today's The Australian. It was at risk anyway with an incompetent Entrenched Defence Bureaucracy that I wouldn't trust to build a canoe. The Japanese are also puzzled of how someone will take their sub design, try and put American combat systems in it and have it built as a jobs program in a corrupt infrastructure. In all reality, the Collins replacement program is there to feather the nests of the chosen ones and...to buy votes and jobs.
It has little to do with a practical defense of the nation.
And if that is the case, I would rather not have it. We can better spend $40B or more on something else.
And that might not even be toward Defence.
It could even be $40B or more less in taxation. Good luck with that of course in a spend-thrift entitlement society.
Governments, in general, are bad at "creating" jobs.
And it has been many years since the spend-thrift government has submitted a budget that spends within our means.
New leadership next Tuesday? No matter what, things won't change all that much for the running joke that is the Entrenched Defence Bureaucracy.
It is a cabal, a Mafia.
Something else that Canberra copied from Italy.
