Dutch MoD, issued 17-jan-2014

Two F-35s of the Royal Netherlands Air Force on Friday flew from Eglin Air Force Base in Florida to Edwards Air Force Base in California. The Joint Strike Fighters go to take part in the Operational Test and Evaluation phase.
After an approximately five-hour flight, the fighters landed safely in California. Here, the RNAL’s 323 Squadron began its participation in the operational test and evaluation phase of the F-35 program. This will not only validate the operational capabilities of the F-35 weapon system, but will also show that the Royal Netherlands Air Force is prepared "to operate with a very versatile fifth-generation fighter aircraft," says 323 Detachment Commander Colonel Bert de Smit.
An important part of this phase is the deployment in a conflict phase. Colonel Smit said "Aspects such as self-defense and disabling both air and ground targets are evaluated. The deployment of the aircraft itself, the setting up a logistics base and supporting ICT systems, and the establishment of maintenance procedures are discussed."
It is envisaged that the first F-35s will arrive in the Netherlands in 2019. The Defense ministry plans to purchase at least 37 of these aircraft.
Meanwhile, about twenty technicians, four pilots and approximately ten support employees are being trained to work with the F-35. Colonel Smit is satisfied so far: "The more experience we gain with the unit, the clearer it becomes that this versatile fighter is the right answer to the challenges of the future
Trying to pass the idea that Dutch F-35s are going right into operational test and evaluation.
Not true.
The IOT&E will start in 2017/2018 (see DOTE-report F-35 JSF page 71)
“spin-up training for IOT&E to occur no earlier than the operational readiness review planned November 2017”
“start of IOT&E six months later in May 2018”
