Saw the movie last night.
Pretty good. It did depart from the book in more than a few places that were not needed... to make a good move with the Clint Eastwood quality label on it.
His first tour in Iraq (2003) was not as a sniper. He was not an official sniper when he got his first sniping kill; he was just minding the gun for a sniper; and that sniper gave him the order to shoot. That kill event he didn't shoot a kid, just a mother with the weapon.
The scene with the kid picking up the RPG was not accurate. In the book, he knew that kids would pick up dropped weapons. In this case a bad guy came out with an RPG and Chris shot him. Later a kid came by to take it (a known tactic) and Chris didn't have the ROE to do anything but watch.
In the book, there was no famous bad-guy-sniper. This was just to move the story along.
His longest sniping shot? That was not the bad-guy-sniper. It was a guy that was visible in a window; who some moments later, picked up a weapon. It was not a high-stress event anywhere near as shown in the movie.
There are some other examples too. But...anyway.
So, if we believe the book, which are the words of Chris and his wife, the movie takes some liberties.
Still tough, good entertainment and a good story.
