Malaise

How is the military going to continue? Good question.

The following could have been copy-pasted from the 1990's "peace dividend", along with endless Operation:DENY CHRISTMAS deployments from that very same decade.

A Navy aviation machinist's mate first class based in El Centro, California, said operational budget cuts left him and fellow sailors cannibalizing working parts from other aircraft entering phased maintenance so they could repair higher-priority broken jets. Even uniforms are in short supply, he said, as the Navy embarks on what could be a decade of scrimping under sequestration

We can only fight wars against 3rd-rate countries that don't have a real air force, army or navy. Notice I used the word "fight" and not "win".

At least we have the backing of 900-some flag-ranks.

The US may spend a lot on Defense per year.

That does not translate to actual war-fighting capability.
