2015 to be landmark year as Australia's Entrenched Defence Bureaucracy helps destroy ship-building industry

(The head of the railway, the train engineer and people that put
down and maintain the tracks care more about their benefits
package and graft, than the welfare of the paying passengers.
)

Today's The Australian reports on the state of the state of the nation's military ship-building industry. As an aside, the paper still erroneously reports the Air Warfare Project being over-budget by millions...when it is: billions.

The culprit according to The Australian is "government".

Duh. But won't specify whom.

We knew this was bad; that it was going to happen and that the entrenched defence bureaucracy has done more work to weaken our national defence posture than any foreign enemy.

The Australian reports that Melbourne's Williamstown and Newcastle's Forgacs will see almost their entire workforce of 1460 go way do to lack of shipbuilding orders. By the end of 2015, this will probably all be wrapped up.

Forgacs already laid off 240 people earlier this year.

Australia will need to build 20 new patrol boats and an unknown number of replacement frigates sometime in the future.

The LHD...is...a waste. So is the obsolete Air Warfare Destroyer.

As for a replacement submarine group think, it is all, barking mad.

There is military ship-building to be done on a continued basis, if only the bureacracy would practice a war-fighting ethos instead of vote-buying and graft as the goal.

Self-before-service is one of the big problems.

That and over-all military leadership and planning, incompetence.

As time goes by, more and more of our tax dollars will be spent on foreign-owned defence interests.

And our ability to defend ourself, will not improve.

And yes, it still goes, that Australia, in general, does not care about Defence.

Entitlement society, uber alles.

And if that is the real goal, then we are spending about $10B too much, each year, on defence.

If something is worth doing, where the goal is the nanny state, don't let other things interfere with that objective.

Another elephant? Australia still can't put together federal budgets that spend within our means.
