Another unwarranted spending spree by Defence

Defence is on another unwarranted spending spree.

DM Johnston wants 4 more C-17s on your credit card.

It is an impulse buy out of the blue.

The justification? Global events nowhere near Australia.

The RAAF is NOT the USAF with global mission sets. It is a small air force with regional mission needs.

The 2 percent of GDP spending meme is brought up at the end of the article by the usual suspects. It has always been a bad argument especially for such a grossly mismanaged organisation. Since Defence leadership has not cleaned up their act, we would be throwing yet more money into the trash bin. A usual process that happens because of their poor analysis.

If anything, Defence needs to learn thrift. A haircut of $10B off of the annual budget (currently around $29B) should be considered. This would weed out things that don't contribute to actual .... defence of the nation.

Australia is a nanny-state / entitlement society...

...in federal debt with unbalanced federal budgets.

Defence gets what it gets--as a percentage of the Federal Budget--after everyone else has had their fief.

What to do? Make sure this proposal for an impulse buy of 4 C-17s gets shot down.
