"Eliminate this dangerous cancer."
Sure, I guess. But this is not the way to do it.
Add up all of the expensive munitions, and cost per flight hour of the aircraft involved (few, or none of them below 5-figures per hour) and you have an alarming cost.
For little return. A joy for defense contractors though.
You will see statements from DOD that various facilities were struck that will have a great affect on the operations of ISIL.
I doubt it. That is kind of legacy big-war thinking is silly vs this kind of threat.
This is an opportunity missed for organisations like the Rangers.
Find a point of interest; find a safe way to ingress that doesn't end up Blackhawk-down. Hit hard. Hold no ground and leave within minutes. Over and over. Make ISIL operations painful.
And while that organisation spans into Syria, depending on various players there is a mistake, for obvious reasons. Anyone that says Admiral Akbar every minute or two is a wild-card threat.
Air strikes such as they are won't change much for such elusive forces. They will adapt enough to absorb any losses and continue.
They know that no troops are going to show up.
Interesting how the new, ongoing air operations in Iraq didn't stop this disaster.
Expect more of the same.
So what is the real goal of this operation? It certainly is not a no-bag-limit vermin clearing series of effort which is needed.
I say it is to make Democrats look good in the coming elections. Obama the war leader.
All this with the help of establishment Republican supporters who don't really want to rock the boat.
Operation:STALKING HORSE.
