Gov has not done homework on Japanese sub idea

Some of the readers have already made comments about the idea of Australia looking at a Japanese sub design to replace the Collins. For example: how do you put in a U.S. combat system into a closed source Japanese sub?

Here are some more thoughts. Notice the comparison chart and other comments at the link.

It’s apparent that Soryu would need to be heavily modified to meet Australian requirements, particularly for long ocean transits and patrols. This would carry cost, performance and schedule risks, and will effectively amount to a new design—it won’t be a MOTS acquisition.

Yet again, the government has not done any credible homework. And just think how many opportunities there are for a moribund and dysfunctional DMO to wreck it.

Also, when looking at the dream/fantasy SEA1000 requirement, you end up with a nuclear powered U.S.-made, Virginia-class nuke-boat as the best solution.
