Defence shopping sprees need more adult supervision

Interesting article from Australian Aviation on the DM wanting more C-17s and KC-30 tankers.

Hint: this or any previous Defence Minister (dilettantes all) using "a no-brainer" as justification, doesn't help.

With this, (as a USAF C-17 guy once told me), C-17s take business away from C-130s. Let us see how that goes.

The KC-30 is on the DMO Project of Concern list. No orders for this aircraft should be allowed until it becomes healthy (not pencil-whipped) off of that list.

The DMO managing anything, is a big part of the problem.

With significant job losses all across Australia, Defence is no longer a sacred cow. There are many programs that need to be axed outright (M-1 tank, MRH-90, Tiger helo, F-35) as they do nothing more than occupy resources best used for valid Defence needs.

The Defence budget is now a zero-sum game.

What is Defence going to cut to afford more C-17s and KC-30s?

Before we do that, the entrenched Defence Bureaucracy needs more adult supervision.

Today, it is rule-by-kleptocracy.
