1996 GAO Report - Super Hornet

For the old hands, this isn't (or should not be) new.

For others that do not follow this kind of thing...

...set aside time to read the full 1996 GAO report on the Super Hornet (PDF). It is a product of its era, but still...important.

In it you will find out how the Navy fibbed (or omitted fact) about carrier bring-back, range, strike capability and other things when comparing against the existing C/D Hornet.

At a time of post-Cold War DOD budget reductions, the Navy could have recapped their carrier decks with hundreds of $28M each F-18C/D Hornets.

It is a good read. Including the funny comments about the future Joint Strike Fighter.
