Defence wants new management for its troubled Air Warfare Destroyer program

Time for Defence to fire up the blame-shifting wizard in MicroSpoof Office. Looks like DJ-Marky-Mark and The New Kids on the Block just aren't very useful at building ships.

Defence wants new management for those $2.8B each Air Warfare Destroyers of dubious worth.

THE Abbott government wants to sack its own naval shipbuilder and install British defence giant BAE Industries to rescue the nation’s largest defence project, the $8.5 billion construction of three air warfare destroyers.

The proposal would revolutionise Australia’s defence industry and potentially halve the responsibilities of the current AWD shipbuilder — the government-owned ASC — by limiting it to maintaining the Collins Class submarines rather than building new warships.

As an aside, it isn't a handful of millions over budget. It is billions over budget. And even if they are delivered, if they don't end up like The Prince of Wales and Repulse in a real shooting war, I would be surprised. Obsolete-to-the-threat combat systems and all.
