You are aware, are you not of the significant trouble with the F-35 program? See the latest DOD DOTE report here (PDF). http://www.dote.osd.mil/pub/reports/FY2013/pdf/dod/2013f35jsf.pdf As for AEGIS, LM was keen to sell Australia obsolete to emerging threat AEGIS vs. newer tech. http://elpdefensenews.blogspot.com.au/2013/10/hobart-class-air-warfare-destroyer-to.html Don't hate the player; hate the game (Boeing and LM salesforce have run rings around a deskilled Australian entrenched Defence Bureaucracy. As for the hulls (with the odd name of "air warfare destroyers) that the obsolete AEGIS will go on, this was sold to the Australian public as a $5B program, then a $6B program, then a $7B program. It has now gone on the DMO project of concern list http://elpdefensenews.blogspot.com.au/2014/06/air-warfare-destroyer-put-on-dmo.html (not a good thing) for significant development problems as an $8.5B program. Given the history and trending, expect it to top out as a $10B program..... for 3....count them....3 ships. These ships will be of dubious worth to the RAN and consume resources (and crewing) best used for something else.

Sad how The Diplomat errors on the side of the Dunning Kruger Effect. And never a good thing when this piece from them quotes the usual fan-base/suspects. My comment on the post is below.
