The Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control 'SpectIR' pod-mounted infrared search-and-track (IRST) system, that was packaged into a LANTIRN targeting pod in early 2012 and trialled during the only 'Red Flag' of 2013, has also not re-appeared at this year's events. The pod was reported to have successfully acquired targets on 'first pass' and 'maintained a tight track throughout the engagement, providing the pilot with a passive, weapons-quality cue that enabled weapon employment.'
Also from an LM press release:
ORLANDO, Fla., February 24, 2012 – Lockheed Martin’s [NYSE:LMT] transportable infrared search and track (IRST) pod successfully acquired, tracked and provided a weapons cue during a recent live fire flight test conducted by the Air National Guard (ANG).
The IRST pod successfully acquired the target on the first pass and maintained a tight track throughout the engagement, providing the pilot with a passive, weapons-quality cue that enabled weapon employment. Incorporating IRST capabilities into a pod form provides long-range, passive infrared detection and tracking of airborne threats in a transportable configuration.

Of course, LM are in charge of delivering this capability for the U.S. Navy's Super Hornets.
A device which has its roots with the F-14 program.
