Throwing stones from glass houses
While the Entrenched Defence Bureaucracy pursues its on-going mission of self-before service; robbing the taxpayer blind and trying to acquire every dumb idea in military hardware that comes down the pike, Australia has been left strategically vulnerable. So much so that losing a future war or a negotiated peace on the terms of an enemy is almost certain.
Australia, due also to a government sponsored unfriendly business climate, has made sure that today, there are only about 20 days worth of petroleum based products on hand.
Most of today's petroleum is now imported with a fast cruise climb toward 100 percent.
So, while the Dunning-Kruger effect fan club continues to give bad advice to our elected officials (for example: white elephant submarines that will go off into the South China Sea and launch a small handful of cruise missiles), Australia is basically defenseless.
An enemy that could put together a campaign on par with Operation:DRUMBEAT would bring Australia's economy to its knees in a very short time by sinking tankers.
The shelves of Coles and Woolworths would dry up quick because there is no fuel to transport goods.
Defeat.
20 days is too late to figure out that the ADF doesn't have enough killing ability on-hand to keep a force of enemy diesel-electric submarines, air power and surface forces, from cutting off Australia's petrochemical supplies.
20 days is not enough time for a severely degraded U.S. Armed Forces to come to a rescue that they are now ill-prepared to deal with.
20 days is too late to figure out that being an energy producer at home is one of the building blocks of national security.
So, either Australia reverses itself and starts building up its home petroleum industry, or it starts signing peace treaties and trade agreements that do not give it a full advantage.
We were warned about this.
Years ago.
