Solomon has brought up a very good question about the right kind of tank for the USMC.

Look at the USMC requirement in the number of active and reserve tank companies.
We have 600-some M-60s in storage. We have plenty of work for industry to do in order to get these going.
The M-60 burns much less logistics than the M-1: $6 per mile vs. $400.
Just as important it only requires a handful of maintenance minutes per day. The M-1? Hours.
This points directly to how much a Marine ground formation can move and fight each day.
The "advantages" the M-1 brings are in the end: minimal. The advantages the M-60 brings are: significant.
