“What keeps me up at night,” General Odierno said, “is if I’m asked to deploy 20,000 soldiers somewhere, I’m not sure I can guarantee you that they’re trained to the level that I think they should be.”
It is the general's job to get from behind the desk and move around to different units during the day. There is plenty of basic soldier skills that don't cost large amounts of money. Working up a sweat being one of them.
It appears that picking generals that should be fired will be easy; and thus contribute to "right-sizing" the Army.
