Even though I am not a big fan of ALLIED FORCE 1999, it is good to come back to it as it is a pattern for various bombing campaigns now and into the future. Including difficult terrain and mobile surface-to-air air defense systems.
I visit the idea of it at various times to see how modern weapons systems would do.
For example, the distance from Aviano Air Base, Italy to Belgrade is under 400 miles.
Today, a few squadrons of A-10s, carrying 600 mile-range JASSM-ERs could do most of the fragging of any fixed (useful) targets for that whole campaign. You would only be using the A-10 as a simple, fly out a ways and release the weapon profile, but, the aircraft is reliable, can be prepped quickly and, if a little slow, wouldn't need tanker support. Rise and repeat, all day; all night.
