In Year 2010 dollars, Australia ranked 11th in the world for defence outlay at about $24billion and Turkey 13th at around $18billion. It seems they manage their defence budgeting much more cost-effectively.
Consider their emphasis on frigates and corvettes in lieu of destroyers; also, German designed submarines.
If they really want an LPD, it seems a good opportunity for Australia to sell them a hull!
