Dead-tree trade-press

This is one of those overview-of-the-fighter-market efforts by the trade press which is dull as dishwater.

Besides the problems in the article that calls the F-35 "advanced" (interesting claim given it is so screwed up) and a "fifth-generation" fighter (Internet meme on its best of days), we have this near the bottom-right of the layout.

When looking close we have this massive LOL:

What "experts" when most of the F-35 fan-base claims have been chopped to ribbons?

For years.

Over and over.

Can it get any more silly for a jet that hasn't trapped on a carrier 12 years after contract award (and 6 years after passing "critical design review")?

And even then the aircraft will not stand up to emerging threats.

Final LOL in the article are space-filler quotes from Richard Aboulafia, who has about as much knowledge of combat aviation topics as well, someone who advises on who will sell more airliners X-Year...Boeing or Airbus?

Here is what he stated in 2007:

Aerospace Daily, in a story by Mike Fabey (subscription only), refers to a report from Teal Group vice-president Richard Aboulafia on the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF). It's a report that apparently encapsulates a lot of the conventional wisdom about the project. The "vanilla land-based F-35 is now expected to cost about $50 million in today's dollars," says Aboulafia, but he warns that if it goes above $60 million the JSF's chances of dominating the world market will diminish.

Low value content.

Before the Internet, people would buy publications printed in magazines to get such analysis and think it of value.

The only excellent defense writer left is Aviation Week's Bill Sweetman.
